10 reviews for Tapo Wifi Camera 2K 3MP Pet Camera

  1. MR PETER WILSON

I spent a good while reading reviews of the many MANY cameras available for indoor use. In my case to check my cat is getting fed by the automatic feeder when I’m not there. There’s a huge price range and quite a few require a subscription. I chose this one because there’s no required subscription (with local storage options), it’s inexpensive and the 2K picture quality is excellent. I’m particularly impressed with the night vision quality. I’ve had it a week now and not disappointed with it. You’ll want to set up an “at home” and “away” action to switch the camera on when you’re out otherwise you’ll get an alert on your phone every time you walk past the camera!

The camera is great. Mic and audio work well clear enough for a WiFi camera. It has good features too, without the added charges such as privacy zones. Away/home mode etc. Detection sensitivity adjustment and more.TapoCare can get expensive, which is required for the cloud storage and extra features but SD cards can be used to record motion detection times and person detection times (sold separately). There is no built in storage at all. Cloud or SD card only.Connection to WiFi was easy. Much quicker than most devices like this and the mobile app is brilliant on both a new Samsung S23 and older Samsung S10. Allowing upto 32 cameras to be easily added and operated from the same app.Picture quality on the pan/tilt indoor cam is really good. I’m very impressed with the night vision too. Surpassed my expectations in everything, the performance and quality of the camera is fantastic for the price. The user movement of the camera works great and is very responsive too.Camera looks OK for what it is. Not too big, but not tiny by any means. It’s no secret camera but status lights can be turned off.

I used this product to track the activity of my cats when I am away, or asleep. The camera quality is excellent, and it records and saves (to the cloud) short activity videos. Equally useful for baby monitor as it has an alert for a crying baby. Thoroughly recommended

I didn’t have particularly high hopes for this camera due to its price-point but I have to say it’s actually pretty good value and does a very reasonable job.TP Link is a brand I am familiar with and I’ve owned their routers in the past.Overall build quality is pretty good and the included plastic ceiling mount and the ability to invert the image when ceiling mounted is a nice touch. It’s mains powered only so you’ll need to have a nearby socket to use it.The highest 2k setting gives perfectly adequate recordings and the pan tilt function adds to the cameras reasonably wide field of view in setting an ideal frame.Motion detection works to a fashion although I’ve chosen not to use it as I prefer a static frame. The variable sensitivity settings allow the user to largely filter out unwanted notifications and recordings. The night vision works well and the addition of a mic to pick up audio is useful. There is a chat function but the speaker is not really powerful enough to provide a useful volume for two way chat in my opinion unless you are up close to the camera.Set-up is easy as is firmware updating and SD card formatting in-camera.The inclusion of up to 16x play back speed when viewing clips is useful but I would like to see the ability to download clips rather than have to transfer the SD card to a PC or laptop to save them. You can save a still to the memory in your phone, but not video.I gather the camera can be used with third party software which may provide that ability although I have not tried it myself.I bought four of these cameras for internal use and I am pleased with the overall coverage, quality and ease of use they offer.I paired mine with Integral Class 10 128gb SD cards also from amazon at £11.99 each …Time will tell how reliable the cameras are but my first impressions are good, particularly for the price point.

I bought this for me and my family to see my dog while sleeping or on vacation at a low price. As long as you have a micro SD card (the option I chose) or a cloud recording subscription its perfect! Multiple people can sign in to one account (or use the built in device sharing on other accounts) so it’s easy to use! It has a fairly good video quality and using motion detection will notify me when motion is detected and will also mark it on the playback! It has an alarm for if burglars are entering and you can show the police the SD card, playback on app or use the record and capture feature to catch any robber! When the alarm is going off, it will turn on a floodlight! There is also an amazing night vision! Also using Tapo Routines or a third party service like IFTTT, You can make an automated camera!

Quick & easy setup with the Tapo app, picture is surprisingly good, with impressive brightness & clarityThere’s a short delay with sound, between camera and app, but the 2-way audio works well.Pan and tilt features are smooth & quiet, with extensive range of motion. Can be mounted upright or inverted, with a simple twist-lock mount & 2 screws.FYI, if you haven’t found the SD card slot yet, you need to tilt the lens all the way up – slot is in base of the black ball.Only gripe, is that despite it being set to automatically record to SDcard, when it detects motion or a person, we couldn’t get it to do so. It would only take photos & video manually, via the app.Overall, pleased with the C210 camera itself, but disappointed that it is NOT compatible with the Tapo H200 hub, which we bought to pair with it.UPDATE 26/3/2024 – Bought camera as a Xmas gift for parents but it stopped working, in mid-February. Had to contact TP-Link customer services, for a replacement (which involved some degree of email ping-pong, to establish that yes, it really was dead-as-a-door-nail).Had to pay return postage but thankfully didn’t need to print a label – just wrote their reference number, on the boxNew camera arrived today and seems to be working ok at the moment. I’ll keep a close eye on it, for a week, before giving it back to my parents.

i purchased this camera as an `add-on` to my Ring doorbell, which only has a few days left of the trial subscription for recordings. At £60 per year, i thought, `there has to be an alternative`. This camera does everything a Ring doorbell does and actually more, including notifications, however, this is all free and there is no subscription, so a £30 purchase against a £60 p/y subscription, to me, is a no brainer. The camera has an SD card slot for recording to, which can be downloaded to your phone. The pan/tilt works great and it was easy to fit and setup via the app, so now, i can use the ring as a doorbell, still see what`s going on and who`s at the door, but this camera will do the rest! The only complaint i do have about it, is the fact that the lead from the adaptor needs to be longer, at least 2 metres on top of it`s current length of 3 metres. My plug socket is literally right by my front door, but the lead still wasn`t long enough, so i had to extend it, but that aside, great camera and great value.

This camera is amazing. It is very easy to use it and to set it up. The camera have a good quality as well as it is rotating so you can get a good view around your home or where are you using it. As well as it detexts the motion and you can hear the sound as well. You can speak on a microphone and it can be hear on the camera. Very good product especially if you have a baby or a animal. Highly recommend it!

Bought this product for checking our place out whilst away.People have been taking parcel that are not theirs.First delivery great on time but wishes the delivery packaging was more discrete as everybody know that I had bought a camera it needed to be in the Amazon cardboard box apart from that it was fine I decided to set my camera up in my main bedroom unfortunately it did not work because we were too far away from my wi fi hub eventually I decided and read the instructions to move the camera closer to my Wi-Fi connection in our kitchen and all worked perfectly well good great camera and see clearly daytime or nighttime whilst I’m away I can see from my phone what is going on in my house and even speak to my partner and fortunately I’m not sure how I can hear my partner speaking to me but I can speak to them I would recommend this camera is light and easy set up once you get going we also ordered SD card to record all Coming and goings the camera is very good tracking people entering and leaving the room.Would recommend

I have other Tapo cameras which I have rated (especially for the price). Unfortunately, the motion detection wasn’t accurate, and I ended up getting notifications when nothing was there, and none when I know people were there. I gave it the benefit of the doubt, and considered that it may be a problem with that camera, a problem the manufacturers needed to work on, or it was something to do with where I had placed it.Fastforward to the present – I bought a different Tapo, the C210. The good and the bad, in short:THE TAPO C210:+ The camera is ‘built’ on a ball/rotating system, which you can adjust up and down, left and right, remotely, from your phone/the app. It’s really convenient if you want to look around the room and see what’s going on. It’s perfect for pets/children/general security. (See image 1)+ You can save ‘fixed’ camera positions – i.e. if you find a really good angle, you can ‘save it’ and toggle between them easily rather than adjusting the camera manually on the app. (See image 2)+ There’s a mode that enables the camera to ‘follow’ movement, so if your camera is angled at the door, for example, then somebody walks into the room, the camera will follow them. (This can be turned off – the camera can be fixed to a still position). (See Image 4)+ There are various ‘modes’ you can select, depending on what you are using the camera for e.g. to detect a baby crying, motion, people etc. (Motion and people are different, as explained below) – simply turn those modes on and the camera will heighten its sensitivity to those issues. (Although I cannot say how responsive it is to a baby crying, but even with the ‘baby crying’ feature off, it detects dogs making noises/whimpering).+ You can modify the sensitivity to motion (i.e. light/medium/sensitive). My camera has detected a rustling bin bag on all three sensitivities, so it is effective. I have not messed around to determine levels of sensitivity, other than this. (See Image 3)+ You can adjust the ‘area’ within the camera screen (i.e. to only detect motion on a specific part of the frame). It’s a handy option for people whose camera coverage also overlaps public space. (See Image 3, also)+ Motion vs People detection. – there are separate detections for people and objects (which you can adjust/turn on or off). It’s a handy option, depending on what you are using the camera for. (See Image 4 – ‘AI Detection’ and ‘Motion Detection’ are separate).+ Notifications for movement in general, or people, are separate – the notification will also clearly identify if there’s just something moving or if there’s a person identified. (See Image 5 – I use an iPhone)+ I haven’t tested them, so cannot comment on effectiveness, but there are sound and light ‘alarms’ on the cameras, which I assume go off on the camera, and are to deter intruders. (You may wish to check this – but it seems like a good feature). (See image 4)+ Sound quality itself is good – I can hear everything that goes on in the home.+ Sensitivity to sound is (a) great quality – a good feature, and good in quality itself.+ Fantastic price for the item.+ Good quality image, even at night.+ No subscription necessary – although you may wish to buy a micro SD card separately to record movement. (Note: nothing over 256gb is supported)+ Easy to use app – very simple and straight forward options, as far as apps go.+ Quite easy to setup – although a tiny bit of messing around when connecting to wifi.+ Easy ‘recording’ features – although I am awaiting my memory card, so will report back with any useful findings/issues.- The instructions aren’t the best. If you aren’t ‘tech-minded’ you may struggle slightly to set it up (although it is not a complicated set up, by far, it can be a bit finicky) – I’d recommend watching a YouTube video, as I imagine they will be substantially better than the small instruction book. (Although when I had issues, I didn’t resort to this, fiddled with the wifi a bit and it worked).- The instructions for app use/features is poor too. I have had to mess around with the item to work out how best to use it. It wasn’t until messing around with the app that I discovered the features within and things like people/motion being detected differently.- If you plan to use this facing out of a window, I wouldn’t recommend it. Night vision is good generally, but there is a small light on the camera that reflects on windows so visibility outside becomes distorted.- A small issue that I experience – sometimes the app isn’t the best with data connection. Not awful if your camera is recording constantly, but if you get a notification whilst you’re out and you want to check, it can take a while to load and/or a few attempts, and you may have missed the movement (especially if using this camera without recording etc – i.e. ‘live’ only). All in all, a fantastic budget option with various settings to meet the criteria of many. Some minor issues that will need to be rectified to improve it, but as far as use, price and features go, it’s an item that will cater to a lot of needs.
