Recycling PlasticThe process to create Vet Fleece starts with your everyday water or pop bottle that if had not been recycled could end up in our oceans or landfills harming sea life or taking hundreds of years to break down. We always prioritise locally sourcing our materials to reduce transportation time |
Polyester GranulesOnce all of these plastic bottle have been saved from littering our planet, they get sorted by colour and plastic type, then they are ground into plastic granules. The granules are melted down and extruded though a microscopic hole which creates each individual length of fibre. The fibre is cut at our desired fibre length then bundled together in large bales of fibre. |
Polyester SliversOnce we receive our recycled water bottle’s in the form of bales of fibre, we use our carding machines to manipulate the fibres so they are all facing the same way. It is then spun into the sliver’s that we can use on our knitting machines. |
Vet FleeceWhether you choose Greenbacked Vet Bedding or Non-Slip Vet Bed we are very proud that our Vetfleece is made from 95% recycled plastic and is produced and quality checked in our own Yorkshire Coast Mill. Also, we make sure any leftover Vetfleece is put to good use elsewhere, whether this be comfy filling for our dog beds or insulation. |

35 Years in the Making
Vetfleece is made almost entirely from polyester, the backing yarn and fibres being polyester, and the backing acrylic.
We create Vetfleece in our own Mill in Bridlington, following a four-stage process of carding the fibres, knitting the backing fabric, interweaving the fibres to provide the pile and shearing the height, this provides us with our super soft high pile fleece. To finish we add the backing to the fleece which would be either our original green backing or the nonslip backing before it travels through a large oven which cures the coating.
The finished fleece bedding is then cut into our range of sizes by our automated cutting machine, and finally a mechanical rolling machine packs the Vetfleece into a small roll, this reduces storage and distribution charges, and helps protect the fleece whilst on its journey to our customers.

High Piled Vet FleeceVetfleece with its luxuriously deep pile (25-28mm) top that retains heat keeping your pet nice and cosy. Vetfleece can be used as a mat or pad for dogs, cats, horses, rabbits and lots of other animals. Vetfleece can also be used for older dogs as an orthopaedic dog bed after surgery as it moulds to the their body shape and reduces pressure on their limbs. It is great for dogs who suffer from hip dysplasia, stiffness, muscle pain or a range of other pet health issues. |
Using Vet Fleece in CagesVetfleece – is veterinary grade pet bedding which is used by those involved in the care and welfare of all kinds and breeds of animal. Available in either Greenback or non-slip backing, Vet Fleece is used in the kennels and crates as bedding for sick and recuperating and whelping animals. Many kennels / catteries and top breeders use vet fleece as standard bedding for all their animals. |
Dog’s Digging Vet FleeceMost dogs will scratch, dig and sniff an area before they curl up for a snooze. This is something that their wild ancestors used to do and has been inherited by your dog. The reason behind it is to remove any debris and to expose the cooler dirt. The thick fleece of Vetfleece lets your dog mimic these rituals and allow their natural instincts. |

Taking Care of you Vetfleece
All of our Vet Fleece comes with a sewn-on washing label. We recommended that the Greenback Vetfleece is washed at 40°C, but vet fleece can handle much higher washing temperatures of up to Autoclavable standard 120°C, which is normally used in veterinarian practices to kill all bacteria but this temperature does shorten the life time of the vet fleece if used all the time. Our non-slip fleece can be washed at temperatures up to 40°C, any hotter than this and the backing can start to deteriorate.

It has a good thick pile which makes for a comfortable bed. The heavy weight backing makes it dimensionally stable so that it doesn’t flop around and form creases like other pet bedding does.I use it for both cats and my dog and it went down very well. They prefer their beds with the vet bed to the carpet or up on the furniture although they still do that from time to time.I haven’t had to test the water resistance so far but I understand from other users that it goes in the washing machine and dries quickly. That piece I bought, about £20, did two cat beds and a pad for a Border Collie so good value, it cuts with scissors and is a high quality product.

I don’t know why I didn’t buy this years ago. My dog loves it, seems cosy & washes & dries well. We also take it with us when the dog comes to a restaurant & he lies quietly on it.

When we first used this we thought we had make a mistake. Our puppy immediately tried to dig his way through the middle and chew all of the edges with fluff flying off the mat in all directions. However, after a few weeks the fibres have flattened so there is less fluff and the puppy rarely tries to dig it up. He still chews the edges most days but the mat remains mostly intact. The puppy still pulls fibres out otherwise I would have given it 5 stars. On the plus side, it is warm for the puppy and he likes lying in it.

The fleece looks great, and it is thick and warm – but the shedding has not stopped, and we’ve had it for weeks and washed it several times. It’s quite annoying!
